Funny name for a band made up of a couple of Scousers and a Norwegian, but they put on a short high energy show at the Hi Fi Bar in the middle of Melbourne on a cold night in winter.

This set had everything, hilarious on stage chirp from front man Murph and his sidekicks Tord and Dan, a stuffed wombat mascot called Cherub, a performance by Norwegian bass player Tord of the theme from Postman Pat sun entirely in Norwegian, and a lead singer hell bent on hurting himself as he barrelled around the stage.

Songs from their album The Wombats Proudly Present: A Guide To Love Loss And Desperation featured heavily, from the manic opening of Lost in the Post, through Bridget Jones, Kill The Director and Moving to New York, to their most well known offering Let’s Dance To Joy Division. After selling out shows the world over, this little 3 piece from Liverpool via Oslo had, in a little under an hour, thrilled a sold out Hi Fi bar. (more…)
