Floridian metalcore 4 piece Trivium opened up for Slipknot as part of the 2012 Soundwave festivities at Rod Laver Arena.

Slipknot scare me. I’m no bible-totin’ guy in a tan cardigan, but there’s something house of horrors about this band of freaky looking creatures from Des Moines, Iowa.

After a roof blowing set from Steel Panther, notional headliners Alter Bridge hit the stage lead by frontman and guitarist Myles Kennedy.

“Tonight we’re gunna play all the songs we know by us!” Bursting on to the stage as supposed openers for Alter Bridge, the LA 4 piece stole the show at the Palace complex, from the minute they ripped into Supersonic Sex Machine. Yes. That’s what it’s called.


Zakk Wylde (USA)

Arriving at the Forum Theatre it was immediately evident that there were more people outside sucking down ciggies than there were inside the venue ahead of Zakk Wylde and Black Label Society’s Soundwave sideshow.

And so my week of metal commences… With the Soundwave festival circus in town, this week saw Melbourne infiltrated by a lot of hair, a lot of black, and whole lot of testosterone.
